Single/video Review: Lead Not Follow 1

They may have filmed their video in a garage, but Checaine are definitely not a garage rock band. Their latest single Lead Not Follow opens with a grunty riff and right from the get-go these guys obviously mean business.

It’s obvious these guys have been honing their craft for some time, utilising tight beats that interplay with huge guitar riffs and solid bass melded with big hooky choruses their sound is not too dissimilar to other kiwi rockers Villainy but with a more metal edge.

This song is heavy and melodic and ticks all of the right boxes, with lead singer Fraser Coombes reminding me of Scott Weiland/Velvet Revolver, especially in the breakdown, which works exceptionally well.

The video itself is nicely edited and graded, with cool light flashes and camera shakes used to great effect, all helping get across the power of this tune to the viewer. With a polished production, driving power chords and a catchy chorus, Checaine are definitely leading the way in hard rock and not following with this latest single, I’m sure Lead Not Follow will sound epic live too, nice work lads.
