Single Review: Lonely Love 1

Lonely Love, the sophomore single from Max Earnshaw, is an absolute bop. Recorded at Parachute Studios with Daniel Martin, it’s solid a follow up to Temporarily and hopefully just the start of what’s to come from this talented Christchurch-born, Auckland-based song-writer.

The guitar comes in strong to kickstart this fast paced song. It then fades as the clear vocals begin. It’s the constant ebb and flow of the multi-layered full band sound, and stripped back sections, that keeps the song dynamic and engaging.

Gang vocals join in as Earnshaw repeats “lonely love” enough times to have you singing along by the time the chorus comes around again. About two thirds of the way through, we’re treated to a solid 25 second guitar heavy instrumental. Overall, the drumming is noticeably tight, vocal delivery smooth and recording crisp.

The song ends abruptly (in a good way), making you want to hit play again on this high-energy track, right away. Definitely a tune to add to your summer road trip playlist.
