Ep Review: She’s So Nasty 1

Well, being either a PC softy or a bit of a feminist, I didn’t warm to the title track She’s So Nasty, but being a professional I opened my ears and had a listen to Andrew Masseurs’ new EP.

And I’m glad I did. For those of you who can remember, Janet Jackson had a song called Nasty. Well it seems Andrew Masseurs is using the word nasty in that context – i.e. “she’s so nasty, but I like it.”

The second track on the four song EP is an instrumental of the title track, with kind of a nice old school touch.

Track three Light is another rocking number. I found a bit tough to describe Masseurs’ sound, but when I left the EP playing as I did dishes, acts like New Zealand’s Weta or Aussie’s INXS came to mind. Andrew Masseurs has a down the line rick sound with high gain rhythm playing chords and guitars which drive his songs along.

The fourth and last song on the EP is Everyone. This is a song which is from the narrator’s point-of-view, and appears to be a relationship, lust, or infatuation song.

This release follows previous success Andrew has had with bands including Ammp. On She’s So Nasty Andrew has ventured out to create his own pop-rock tunes, from the ground up, playing all the instruments on the recordings.

Playing all instruments and also mixing his own tunes makes this a journey of growth and learning. A good solid effort.
