Pass The Peas are a 5-piece alternative rock band, comprising of Kurt (vocals, guitar), Alice (lead guitar, backing vocals), Ben (keyboards, backing vocals), Jamie (bass) and Tiho (drums).
Strange Favours is their new EP – let’s get into it!
The first track Hold My Baby kicks off with a solid blues feel from the rhythm section, with guitars and Ben’s keys setting the scene for getting to know Kurt’s gritty emotive vocal style. This song is one big build-up, with the outro being a highlight for me – Kurt sure has pipes! Alice’s subtle lead guitars are well placed – definitely my standout track from this EP.
Totes make you want to sit back further on your sunchair with a cold one. It has a cruisy and at times, edgy feel. The lyrics once again, are engaging.
I like the less is more, spacious production. It reminds me of early Kings Of Leon in a way, the big chorus build-ups, and bottom end guitar tones in the solo keep this track rockin’!
The final track Basic Cable has a beachside Brank Bjork feel. Lyrically it’s well structured, the choruses have that – I-wanna-sing-along appeal and there’s great content, it sounds like a love song, but I could be wrong. The up-tempo chorus in the last part of this track was a happy surprise, I might add.
In summary, I’d buy this EP – it has a very cool party time vibe – 4/5 for cranking over summer!
