Collapsing Building is the second single of the upcoming 5-track EP from Miss Used. It’s the louder, uglier younger brother of the band’s first single Depraved, that will surely follow in the same success of over 15,700 streams on Spotify.
The sultry intro lures you in but seems a little rushed as the song jumps quite quickly into lyrics. Otherwise the track feels quite effortless in its build ups and break downs. The hard rock lead guitar is present without being overpowering. Gentle vocals turn jaw clenchingly growly in the build-up, to be released only by the big echoey sound of the chorus.
This is the kind of sound that translates so well to a live stage.
As could be expected from a song called Collapsing Building the lyrics paint a not-so-pretty picture but at times seem a little cliche. They demonstrate an ability to surpass that though with the more poetic and openly interpretable ‘this is my mind, not your house, you don’t live here, please get out’.
On this single and upcoming EP, the band worked alongside Scott Seabright who has recorded for greats such as Mumford and Sons, Alien Weaponry and Savage. The EP is to be released on November 27.
I have my fingers crossed for a New Zealand wide tour soon.
