Single Review: History 1

First thing; wow what a voice. Gabriel Bond has a stunning voice, I would frankly amazed if he hasn’t had a bunch of formal vocal training.

His new single History opens up with piano for a couple of bars, before we first hear Bond’s voice, by the first pre-chorus he’s introduced a gently guitar refrain, and electronic backing from drums and bass synth. The sound is modern pop, but unlike so many offerings from overseas, Gabriel Bond delivers a sincere song.

At 2:47 long a cynic might say he’s designed History to be this short so people always want to hear it more, and so will stream it again. It really is a well-written song, beautifully produced, polished but not buffed out of all originality.

Gabriel Bond hails from Palm Beach (Waiheke Island) and has been singing since he was 5 years old. He opened some shows for Tiki Taane in 2018, and once you hear it you’ll say, “History is his debut single? Not even ow”, or words to that effect depending on your general vernacular.

Anyhow I’ve gone off on a tangent, suffice it to say, History is one of the strongest debut songs I’ve ever heard, earning it a rare 5 stars. Bloody good tune Gabriel Bond.
