Single/video Review: Memory Lake 1

New Zealand-American indie folk artist Colette Rivers has just released a video for her latest song Memory Lake. The video was filmed on the shores of Lake Taupo and is also the theme of her song. The video itself is uncomplicated with no trickery, allowing you to absorb the original composition of the track. The voice behind the lyrics offers full bodied harmonious tones which have been compared to Stevie Nicks coupled with Joni Mitchell.

There is a rawness about her sound that appealed to me, a grunginess combined with an intense broad vocal range.

Rivers’ lyrics on Memory Lake are heartfelt and beautifully descriptive, reflecting her “deep connection to earth and sea” and her personal attachment to Lake Taupo. There is a spiritual element to this track which is evident in her poetic lyrics and delivery.

Melodic guitar is complimented by keyboard creating a gentle almost eerie sound.

The music video which is beautifully simple in its delivery was filmed by Rivers long-time friend and photographer, Abby Dance, on the shores of Lake Taupo – her hometown.

Memory Lake is an alluring track full of emotional relevance, accompanied by extraordinary vocals.
