Single Review: Leaking The English Whinging Song 1

New Zealand’s award winning pirate Captain Festus from the family entertainment troupe, Captain Festus McBoyle’s Travellin’ Variety Show has recently released another single from his up-and-coming album Look Wot The Cat Dragged In. Leaking - The English Whinging Song is an unapologetic musical whinge of unfortunate events from this sometimes unlucky pirates adventures.

The Captain has a unique way of weaving magic into every song he releases, appealing to families and big kids alike. Formerly of rock bands the Manic Pop Junkies, Teen Shag Superstar and Runninghouse, Rich Manic, as he was known, has 35 years of musical experience behind him, naturally he has morphed into an all singing all dancing flamboyant pirate. This may seem like an unusual choice for someone with a rock background, but with his creative flair and talent for performing, he along with his troupe have become one of New Zealand’s top family entertainers with a list a mile long of achievements.

His latest offering is an original track, cleverly constructed into a 5-minute grumble delivered at his swaggering best. Relying on his English birthright he unleashes a hefty amount of entertaining lyrics telling of the niggly inconveniences of everyday life, “I guess we’ll have to fix that soon”, making it a song we can all relate to. The combination of Captain Festus McBoyle on lead vocals, banjolele, percussion and backing vocals along with support from Amos Clarke on backing vocals delivers engaging and fun musical story telling.

Leaking – The English Whinging Song will resonate with the adult in all of us while getting the kids to sing along. It’s captivating and infectious, this is an entertaining light-hearted song about daily life.

Uncomplicated yet extremely smart, the Captain knows how to relate to his audience on multiple levels.
