SACHI are an electronic dance duo made up of Nick Chrisp and Will Thomas. Whole Againis their first music release of 2023. After debuting it at Tomorrowland festival in Belgium, the audience response was so strong that it encouraged the pair to make Whole Again a single.
The track opens with a strong, syncopated, single note tone underneath the lyrics “I spend my nights trying to make sense of the love we had.” Cute harmonies come in over the refrain ”Where did it go wrong?” A shimmer rings out that sounds like a magician touching a tray of half-full wine glasses.
The catchiest melodic hook in the song is on the line “yesterday we died.” It ascends quickly but loses momentum and sours just off the edge of where you’d expect it to hit, which makes the line always hit in a quirky, interesting way. Such a bold choice too, to take a line that could have so easily been interpreted way more somberly, but infuse it with enough uplifting consonance to convert it into sass, catharsis and confidence.
That line drifts into the metaphor
of being haunted by the ghost of an old love before tumbling into the dancey, boppy, reveling part of the song that contains the title refrain “Will I Ever be Whole Again?”
it’s dreamy and hazy, murky and misty. Then the snare roll pulls up into
a short pause before the dancier, boppier part of the song.
From there, Whole Again explores along a few more juicy harmonies and nautical lines before plunging into sonic degeneracy and dragging us through a glitter-infused dance fit. Great times, best seen live.
SACHI are planning to travel further afield in the near future, so catch them when you get the chance.

About the author Callum Wagstaff
He’s frail, like a buttercup, but he’s not happy about it. Bittercup is the personal catharsis machine of Callum Wagstaff. He hates himself and has found people enjoy the fruits of his shameful confessions, related in sweet serenades, intense outbursts and rarely anything in between. Bittercup (Wagstaff) started out fronting a band of the same name in 2015 before ailing health and renal dialysis forced him to give it up. Despite that he continued to write music and work the New Plymouth scene as regularly as he could in local cover bands Dodgy Jack (drums), The Feelgood Beatdown (Guitar) and Shed: The Tool Tribute (Vocals). In late 2018 in a freak accident he was granted super kidney powers which allowed him to refocus himself on the Bittercup concept, releasing an official Debut EP: “Negative Space” on May 3rd 2019. Negative Space was described by Happy Mag as “a bleak but
