Kyla Greening Unveils New Single ‘Getaway’ Feat. Aidan Fine
Kirikiriroa/Hamilton’s Kyla Greening (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Rakaipaaka, Tainui) is back with a fresh new single, Getaway. This track is sure to put you in that ‘getaway summer love’ mood with its nostalgic 90’s groove, silky R&B vocals, and a smooth feature from rising hip-hop star Aidan Fine.
Recognised as a rising talent, Kyla has previously opened for local superstars Sam V and YAHYAH. Her recent collaboration with Māori rapper Swizl Jager, Better With Time, soared to number four on the NZ Top 40 charts within its debut month.
The music video for Getaway, releasing on August 23rd, will showcase a live, in-studio performance from Greening and Fine, supported by co-producers Lucy Graves and Andre Brown (The Feel Good Service).
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the song, Kyla shares, “The lyrics are inspired by a true story about my best friend’s parents, who always find time to enjoy life together and go on little adventures. One day, while my friend’s mom was at work, her husband called and suggested she ditch work to go for a bike ride and enjoy some ice cream in the sun. They did just that, and I thought it was such a sweet and fun story. I loved how they made time for a spontaneous adventure together.
I think it’s wonderful to romanticise your life and discover new ways to have fun. I wanted the lyrics to capture that spontaneous and joyful spirit. The music set the tone perfectly, which made it easy to write the lyrics.”
