Fatcat & Fishface are the outlaws of NZ children’s music. Their cheeky and irreverent style has been compared to The Simpson’s, Roald Dahl and Bad Jelly.
Fatcat & Fishface have won awards in NZ (Tui – NZ Music Award) and the USA (Children’s Music Web – Best New Artists for Older Children).
‘Pretty Ugly’ (2004) is their latest CD. It was supported by Creative NZ, and developed with input from the Department of Conservation. ‘Pretty Ugly’ was designed to introduce NZ kids to some conservation issues (possums, bottom-trawling, bat flies, pretty ugly species) in an entertaining way.
Fatcat & Fishface are played on National Radio and 95bFM (Ak). In New York they regularly feature on station WFMU’s Saturday morning kids’ show Greasy Kid Stuff.
Fatcat & Fishface were recently included in a New York CD compilation of music for older children (‘More Songs from Inside the Radio’) alongside rock luminaries They Might Be Giants and the guy who does the music for Spongebob Squarepants.
Fatcat & Fishface recently produced ‘Bat Fly’, an animated music video about the NZ native Bat Fly (mystacinobia zelandica). ‘Bat Fly’ featured in the 2005 International Film Festival in the Animation for Kids programme. ‘Bat Fly’ was also judged a finalist in the Radio Active ‘Handle The Jandal’ annual music video awards.
