From their beginning as an instrumental, neo-classical/metal duet through to their present band status, Magnum Opus’ focus has always been on musicality.
In 2004, they won the Wellington Region Rockquest Final and made it through to the national semi-finals, placing them in the top 12 bands of more than 600 nation-wide.
2005 saw the release of ‘The Nightshade of Lycanthropy’ (EP) and several changes of line-up.
2006 has seen them write and perform more than ever and establish themselves throughout New Zealand.
This year Magnum Opus supported the ‘Metal Day Out Tour’, opening for Chuganaut (winners of the WBOTB ’04), Frankenbok (Australia) and Flatline (USA).
Magnum Opus also released a new EP, recorded with Ross McDermott at AudioSuite in Kapiti, where they recorded their first EP ‘The Nightshade of Lycanthropy’.
Magnum Opus’ influences range from the classic metal and rock pioneers of the 70s, 80s and early 90s to many different genres from different eras.
