Prod. #CrossBeatPollination is a weekly showcase for music producers from the local underground electronic music community every Wednesday at Ironbar Cafe.
Rather than having a focus on performers (bands, MCs, DJs etc.) these events shine the spotlight on the producers – something we do not feel is happening enough in a live context. The beat scene is a community that is bursting with talent, and innovative creativity. But because this activity largely occurs behind closed bedroom doors, opportunities for creative exchanges, collaborations and support are often confined to the online realm.
At the beginning of NZ Music Month 2015 we launched the project with an objective to encourage a gathering of music nerds/enthusiasts, bedroom producers and punters who are interested in the craft but may not otherwise have access to it.
Every Wednesday Ironbar Cafe transforms into a garden studio where our weekly guests (a roster of artists that already includes Ben Jamin of Third3ye, Career Girls from Caroles and CHEATS, Tomachi from Breaks Co-Op and SJD, GOTENKS from Supervillains RMC and Perfect Hair Forever, Samuel Truth, LMC and many more) treat us to a rare and exclusive peek behind the curtain
– flashing their setups and generously giving an insight into their varied creative processes
– showcasing fresh creations, b-sides and unreleased works in progress
– needle dropping the tracks that they have sampled and used as reference inspiration
– coming through with surprise visits from the artists they produce for.
