Wellington’s Barzell was formed in the middle of 1997 from various high school bands in Lower Hutt, and haven’t changed their line-up since. Originally a pop/rock-styled band, the four-piece has since progressively evolved into a darker, more heavy rock beast, expanding to the point where they, along with Brubeck, supported Millencolin when they played Wellington in mid-2000.
Barzell have recorded two songs that have appeared on the ‘A Day In The Life…’ New Zealand punk compilation and they describe their influences as including the likes of Fugazi, Fireside, Quicksand and last, but disturbingly not least, Barry White.
Barzell are:
Jonny ‘J.D Hogg’ Davis (bass)
Paul Herschell (guitar)
Alex Young (drums)
