Vallé Releases Debut Single, 'love Me'

Emerging Christchurch act Vallé has released his debut single Love Me – an effortlessly cool and understated groove, which blends rap and RnB influences with warm melodies and a strong narrative.

Love Me is a personal song, which draws on the experiences of Vallé (AKA Enjalas Jenkinson), as well as his observations of the age-old battle with self-love and identity.

“This song is about unpacking the pain as opposed to telling the world how to ‘fix themselves’,” he explains.

“I believe the fixing sometimes happens unintentionally, as we open up and become vulnerable. This is what I aimed to do by creating this song.”

The single is accompanied by a powerful video directed and shot by James Murray.

The dark lighting sets the mood, and with a blacked-out backdrop, the camera circles Vallé, who stands stark and alone under the spotlight. It flicks backwards and forwards between Vallé and a lone dancer.

“We wanted to create an environment of solitude; being alone,” says Jenkinson.

“The song isn’t about hype, paper chasing, fame or success. It’s about why you are, and how you are alone, when all the noise is gone.”

“I loved working with James on the video. The dude is a creative genius. He truly brought the song to a whole other level of life.”

Jenkinson began writing poetry and songs when he was around 10 years old. He wrote and recorded his first rap song when he was only 13.

He went on to release a string of singles and records under the moniker Enjalas, fast establishing a reputation on the local scene as a force to be reckoned with and opening for acts such as JessB, UnchainedXL and Smashproof.

Love Me was co-produced with 10A (Tenei Kesha) and recorded in 10A’s home studio in St Albans.

It’s a bold entrance for Vallé and showcases what’s still to come from the Kiwi artist.
