Anna Wild debut single ‘Four’ released today

Wellington-based artist Anna Wild is debuting her first single Four. This single is the first track from her upcoming alternative-electronic EP titled Wool.

This project explores sonic templates of analog synthesisers, drums, and percussive elements, combining electronic worlds with acoustic percussion. Anna performed all elements of these tracks, besides the Marimba’s which were recorded and performed by her former teacher Michael Barker. Anna collaborated solely with local musicians and artists in New Zealand. The drums were recorded in the studio by engineer Robbie Pattinson, and the rest was recorded by Anna in her home studio and at Massey University Studios. All of her tracks were then mixed by Michael Sutherland and mastered by Benny Tones.

The track is inspired by feelings of discomfort. Four is Anna’s favourite track from the upcoming EP, as it explores many different sounds and evokes many different emotions when the song unravels. The start of the track is heavy with sub-synths before the drums kick in powerfully. As four progresses, a soft piano is introduced and creates a vulnerable soundscape. four’s single cover was painted by Anna Wild herself during a painting session with some of the crew involved with the production of Wool.

Wool is a visual EP of three tracks and a short film. The film explores an abstract perspective of endometriosis and other conditions that can affect a person’s motherhood. After her own diagnosis, Anna was motivated to use her creative platform to raise awareness of these conditions. She stated that “There is not enough creative expression surrounding endometriosis and similar conditions, and I want to become a platform which voices a new conversation about these taboo topics”.

Anna Wild has been a session drummer for many artists around the local scene and is now directing her own solo project to add to her versatility. This is the first project of many from Anna as she establishes herself within the music industry as a multi-skilled musician.
