DeLaye Releases Debut EP ‘Blankspace’

Auckland City’s up-and-coming electronic artist DeLaye brings a refreshing and experimental palette of composition and texture, illustrating his thoughts and experiences in his debut EP Blankspace. Having been exposed to a diverse range of genres from around the world during his childhood years, DeLaye has built a distinctive sound and style that has been described by his fellow creatives and mentors at Te Karanga Navigators songwriting and production sessions simply as “the DeLaye sound”.
Consisting of five tracks, this EP showcases his original sound and sample manipulation style and is supported by his adaptation of hip-hop-like beat structures, delivering a sonic adventure through the mind of DeLaye. Inspired by his own journey with anxiety, flow state and out-of-body experiences, this EP represents a philosophical inflection point for DeLaye as he continues on his path of self-acceptance and healing.
Having produced music privately since 2016, DeLaye stepped on to the scene in August of 2020 when he caught the attention of NZ artist and DJ t1r through a lockdown remix showcase. Since then, he has shared an introductory project (7 Days (2020)) on SoundCloud showcasing his artistic disregard for genre-defined norms and has also released a handful of singles which encompass his conceptual approach to music, with his latest single Lead. Follow.. exploring the dualistic relationship between the highs and lows of his emotions.
Keep your eyes and ears open for this rising 20 year old as he continues to express and pursue his creativity through music, translating his ideas and experiences into sound.
