Flying Man Present Debut Single: ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’

Flying Man are proud to share their debut single Since You’ve Been Gone, a reflective look at life after the loss of a loved one which was inspired by the loss of a close friend to cancer.
Drawing on inspiration from Nick Drake, The Blue Nile and Richard Hawley with emotive and picturesque lyrics that are instantly relatable, Since You’ve Been Gone highlights how hard it can be to go through the mundane morning routine surrounded by the memories of the ones we loved.
Flying Man is the stage name of Dunedin based Irish-born live-looping guitarist and singer/songwriter Alan Ned Gray. Flying Man’s song-writings sit in the electroacoustic realm – playing programmed beats, live looping and layered harmonies. Haunting melodies and infectious rhythms coupled with lyrics which tell stories from snapshots in time.
Alan has been writing music since he was 14 and was a member of Irish band Lucas who had a top 40 single in the Irish charts as well as successful tours of the US East Coast where they also recorded their debut album with famed multi Grammy nominated Rob Fraboni.
Flying Man will be releasing his debut solo recordings over the coming year which are a collection of self produced singles. Varying in styles, each single taps into a different emotion telling the stories of people trapped in time.
Flying Man supported the release of Since You’ve Been Gone with a Tour of New Zealand’s South Island and Wellington alongside fellow Dunedinite Ollie Crooks during the month of January.
