Sabreen Islam is a singer-songwriter from Auckland, New Zealand, weaving her signature style with inspirations from the likes of Maisie Peters, Conan Gray and dodie. Glow was selected as a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition 2020, of which semi-finalists comprised just 9% of over 26,000 entries. She also played Auckland’s famous Others Way Festival and has performed and worked alongside the likes of Jamie McDell. Following a trilogy of stellar indie-folk releases, both Glow and Like A Movie received numerous positive reviews, with ‘like a movie’ being selected to play on high rotation throughout Australia and New Zealand by MTV Australia through MTV Upload.
With slick production by Sabreen herself, Count Me Out is a summery, synth-driven track that details the disillusionment one faces when stood up on a first date, with messages of self-worth and empowerment in the lyrics telling the listener that they deserve better. Driven by piano, ticking clocks and her signature stacked harmonies, Count Me Out completes Sabreen’s pop trilogy with a flourish, showing her versatile knack for transforming her sound across multiple genres.
