Spirit Boy Release New Song 'neon Sky' On 3 March

Ōtautahi indie-rock group Spirit Boy will release their sophomore single Neon Sky on 3 March.

Neon Sky continues the group’s exploration of 80’s stadium rock, with a shimmering guitar line giving way to an uplifting vocal-driven chorus. The lyrics are inspired by frontman Ethan Mead’s experience of seeing the Northern Lights during a trip to Sweden – an event that had a profound impact on him.

“Seeing the Northern Lights was such a potent and intoxicating experience; there was nothing else in that moment except me and the lights,” says Mead. “It was revelatory and really helped me put some things into perspective.”

Neon Sky is available to stream on all digital platforms from 3 March, and provides a taste of the band’s nine-track album, to be released in mid-2023.

Neon Sky is the follow-up to the group’s debut single Adolescence, which was released at the end of last year. The song’s accompanying one-shot video, filmed in Christchurch’s portside suburb of Lyttelton by Caleb Macdonald of Kita Films, garnered national media attention earlier this year when it was picked up by Stuff.

Spirit Boy are: Ethan Mead (vocals/guitar), Regan Barker (guitar), Sam Burt (keyboard/piano), Talon Adams (bass), and Mason Head (drums).

Neon Sky is set  for release this Friday 3 March.
