This EP centers on the singing and songwriting of mainstay Carl Watkins, and each song has its own particular tale to tell. Watkins’ characteristic lyrical intensity of the lyrics is matched by a powerful and accomplished vocal delivery, added to a subtle series of musical settings – with strings, woodwind, piano, acoustic guitar and percussion to show an expansive musical vision.

The songs on the EB EP feature range of notable musicians from the Classical, Jazz, Country and Rock world including Adam Maha (The Funky Monkeys), Aaron Gott (Looking for Alaska), Jacob Blair Tait (The Volume Collective), noted session players Clara Lange and Colin Ogle, and highly respected composer Jeremy Mayall.

The moods range from the gentle BYG through to the emotional intensity of A Tremendous Bear evoking comparisons to the Work Of Glen Hansard and Jeff Buckley. It’s an emphatic introduction the the work of Everlasting Bonfire thus far, and points towards the emotional and musical range of the next collection of work which is currently being recorded.

Everlasting Bonfire is a progression from Watkins’ previous band Daisy Chain Halo, a powerful and popular live act, from the end of 2005. While the sound has evolved away from the crashing dynamics of the ‘Halo and into a more acoustic sensibility, it still retains the same level of vicissitudinous passion and intensity.

Says Carl: I hope for Everlasting Bonfire to be the musical equivalent of what Hemingway said about 1920’s Paris – how it was “a moveable feast” that once experienced you could take with you wherever you go. I want the musicians involved to feel that, as well as the audiences”

Everlasting Bonfire has played live regularly as a solo acoustic show, as a trio featuring Matty Thomas Taylor on bass and keys, and Trevor Faville on drums and percussion, all the way up to a fuller ensemble with woodwind brass and strings. A notable live performance was captured live at the Gallagher Performing arts center in Hamilton, New Zealand . This is currently being developed into a live DVD.
