Vocal Voyager Dallas Tamaira Announces Forthcoming Ep ‘levels’ Out November 3

As the first day of Spring / Kōanga brings warmth and bright new beginnings it also brings news that beloved voice of Aotearoa, Dallas Tamaira (aka Joe Dukie) is set to share his first full solo EP in over two decades.

Levels is available to pre-save now.

The Fat Freddy’s Drop frontman is fresh off the band’s European tour and is revealing more about his soulful, jazzy and musically explorative upcoming EP, Levels. Speaking about the body of work Dallas says:

“Releasing my first solo EP in 25 years has been a feeling of equal parts anxious, excited, and relieved. I began writing Levels during lockdown and it’s thematically all about escapism, creating and exploring new worlds and spaces, and navigating and strengthening bonds along the way. I’m really proud of it and grateful to the awesome team of people who helped me put it all together.”

The six-track EP was recorded in Pōneke – Wellington with Dallas’ long-time musical friends and collaborators, producer Devin Abrams aka Reno (Shapeshifter, Pacific Heights, Drax Project), and engineer Chris Faiumu aka Mu (Fat Freddy’s Drop, Bongmaster, Ladi6).

Featuring stunning cover art by Hamish Fraser, Levels will be unleashed on streaming platforms November 3. Fans will also be able to wrap their hands around a physical copy, arriving on 180gm vinyl featuring a stunning cover by artist Hamish Fraser.

Accompanying the announcement of the EP comes the new single Stormy which can only be described as an immediate classic for fans of Dallas Tamaira’s voice and work over the past 25 years. Filled with Ethio-jazz-tinged horns, vintage dub sounds, and classic soul vocals, the track takes listeners on a journey through tempestuous seas and difficult times.

The single follows the musically explorative Leaning in June, a song which took listeners into a fresh new world of sounds and spaces for Tamaira, teasing what is to come on the Levels EP.

Levels is available to pre-order on vinyl from retailers from Monday 4 September at 11:00 am. The new single Stormy can be enjoyed on all streaming platforms now
